Celebrating 20 Years of Marriage

It’s hard to believe that 20 years have gone by since Rob and I were married and went to Grand Cayman for our honeymoon. Damiano and Jenny came with us for our 5th anniversary and he proposed to her on 7 mile beach during that trip. We thought returning again for our 20th wedding anniversary would be a great adults only trip for all of us.

Rum Point Grand Cayman

When we were planning this trip, we decided to look for a rental apartment near Rum Point on the quieter side of the island. We wanted a relaxing vibe and we heard about Bioluminescent Bay and thought it would be great to stay on that cove so we could experience it.

We found a rental apartment through Grand Cayman Villas that included 2 double kayaks situated right on the bay between Rum Point Beach and the Kaibo Yacht Club. It was perfect. For a week long trip we always prefer an apartment so we have a kitchen and laundry available to us. The lanai turned out to be our favorite hang out location and was especially pleasant in the morning. Afternoons usually involved us making a charcuterie board and cold beverages which we enjoyed on the porch or by the pool staring out at the water.

One of the best things about visiting Grand Cayman is the water activities. We went on a snorkeling outing with RedSail to a reef and then visited Sting Ray City.

We kayaked from our apartment out to Starfish Point multiple times and went out on the Bioluminescent Bay at night to see that beautiful phenomenon for ourselves each time we dipped an oar in the water to paddle.

We also drove the long way around to see the blow holes on the east side of Grand Cayman on our way back to the apartment one day. Rob and Katie, who joined us for part of the trip, went out for a dive trip with RedSail later in the week as well.

The Blow Hole

Since this was an adults only trip, we ate out at restaurants a bit more often than we typically do. Jenny posted several Google reviews of some of the places we went. Here’s a list of our favorites which we’d recommend:

  • The Kitchen Steakhouse in Georgetown, where our server was from Damiano’s hometown in Italy and I had the best steak sandwich ever

  • The Italian Kitchen on the east end in the quiet part of town, the gluten free pizza was amazing

  • Kaibo Yacht Club near Rum Point and walking distance from our apartment, watch out for the coconut drinks, they are deceiving on the rum content because they taste so yummy

  • Cassanova’s (for the anniversary dinner) in Georgetown

  • Tukka on the east end with their tastey fusion tacos

Our week went by quickly but we were so inspired we decided that we’re coming back for a family vacation to celebrate when Kyra graduates from high school. We’re starting to plan that trip now, even though it’s a year away. All our lessons learned on the adults trip will help us make sure our next visit to Grand Cayman, with both of our families, will be great fun for us and the kids.
